Saturday 22nd
January 2005 (League Match)

Yatton 1st XV achieved this Seasons double (treble if you include The Somerset Cup walkover) against Nailsea Backwell, but not without a struggle to turn pressure into points.
The large crowd of homeside support sheltering from the rain urged on the Nailsea boys in this long awaited encounter.
Bad pitch conditions made cohesive play difficult for both sides. Nailsea had the advantage of their infamous slope for the first half, but after missing their first penalty conversion attempt within a few minutes their only points came from the second at 25 minutes thanks to Tony Hill.
Nic Garnham for Yatton capitalised on a 5 yard scrum and touchdown minutes before halftime.
Dispite vast territorial advantages in the 2nd half Yatton were frequently denied by spilt passes and spirited Nailsea defence.
Frequent stoppages marred the game and chilled the players. But eventually at 80 minutes Yattons wing Phil Morgan received the flying pass he had sought all the afternoon and brought the visitors their second deserved try.
Meanwhile by coincidence,
because of Merit Table fixtures, Yatton
2nds were playing Nailsea Backwell at Yatton and beat them by an emphatic 48 points to Nil.
This Saturday Yatton 1st XV get
back to more serious business as they pitch themselves against sides higher in
the League - Thornbury visit The Park, North End, Yatton kick-off 2-30pm.
