2nd in the League’s back line
too quick for hard to crack Yatton
With three regulars
unavailable it was a weakened Yatton 1st XV that travelled to second
in the division
Barum’s pacey back line always threatened and the reward was an unconverted try at 15 minutes.
Halfway through the second quarter Yatton’s hooker was yellow carded for retaliating when held while trying to get back behind a maul which had developed near Yatton’s 5 yard line. Within in seconds it cost a converted try as the home side took full advantage.
5 minutes later Hill’s penalty conversion attempt cruelly glanced back in off an upright.
The sheer pace of Barum’s three-quarter line gave them their third try minutes before halftime to turnaround at 17-3.
In the second half Yatton’s forwards more than had the measure of the home sides pack but failed to penetrate quite enough although breaks by Chris Harris and Neil Hynam came close.
Try as they might Barum were denied anymore points other than a converted try on 70 minutes, when a momentary lack of cover proved expensive for the visitors. Barum’s supporters having paid £4 per head entrance fee we obviously pleased that their side had secured a place in the promotion play-offs but were not happy that the village boys from Yatton could not be ground down.
This Saturday Yatton’s
last game of the season is at home against
Yatton need to win or at least draw to be
sure of avoiding relegation in their first season in this the South West 2 West
