Clevedon    vs      Yatton

Yatton Scorers     - Pens T Hill 3.

Yatton hard fight against clever Clevedon.

Clevedon needed to do something in front of home support after crashing out 49-7 against Taunton the previous week. Having been relegated only last season to loose against newly promoted neighbours Yatton, who were mid-table with them in the league, would have been disastrous.

Consequently the home side were fired up, well drilled and out to avoid embarrassment. With sleight of hand clever tactics, electric pace at any restart and a couple of strong runners they were able to mesmerise the opposition and watchers.

Clevedon started with the edge in line outs and centre Rory Biggins caught Yatton asleep again this time with a tap penalty to put them in front by 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Tony Hill slotted a penalty for Yatton and the onslaught was resisted keeping Clevedon down to only one more converted try before half time.

With the strong sinking sun now on their backs Yatton executed pressure. Hill keeping his 100% record with two more penalty conversions. But out of position players meant the team lacked the creativity of the homeside.

Two second half break-aways resulted in tries for Clevedon but Yatton did finish encamped in the home sides 22 for the final 5 minutes, with a Clevedon player being yellow carded.

This Saturday Yatton’s 1st XV entertain Newton Abbot in the league for the first time. Kick-off 2-30pm preceded by the the ever growing Vice Presidents’ hot main course and cheese & biscuits luncheon.
