Avonmouth sail pass Yatton.

Avonmouth’s enthusiasm for this encounter outweighed that of the home side.

With a slight cross wind advantage and in heavy rain a chip ahead at 15 minutes, from a maul, enabled Prop Grant Britton to pounce on his first try for Avonmouth

Useful kicking and clean lineout ball led to Britton’s second try ten minutes later.

For the last ten minutes of the half Yatton were consistently on the attack in Avonmouth’s 22, being kept out by defensive spoiling and adjudged to have knocked on under the posts. In injury time Avonmouth had a player carded but Yatton finished without points.

After the turnaround it was Yatton’s try line under pressure and seconds after home side replacements Avonmouth’s fly half Charlie Reynolds got his deserved try and conversion by cutting through and landing a difficult kick.

Yatton’s scratch pack got its consolation in the dying minutes when Matt J P Miles crashed through as the pitch deteriorated and the home side began to operate more as a unit.

Avonmouth’s largely young and enthusiastic side deserved their passage through to the next round.

This Saturday Yatton are back to the serious business of trying to retain their pole position in the league. They travel away to Old Centralians, Gloucester.
