Yatton’s hopes not pricked by Thornbury

Thornbury’s aim of hoping to cause pain to Yatton’s top of the table position in Western Counties North crashed against the buffers when the home side put away two converted tries in the dying minutes of the first half.

During the first quarter, Yatton were stopped only yards before the visitors try line on at least four occasions.

Then Yatton’s captain, Chris Harris showed the way in close quarters beneath the posts after an attacking scrum.

The end to end fast open game continued with the home sides backs having the edge.

Scrum half Garnham’s individual try after his break from the halfway was followed minutes later by Rhys Davies finishing off a back line attack.

Yatton turned round 21-0 ahead.

As Yatton faced the low sun, Thornbury wing Ben Folkes capitalised on a wayward clearance kick, giving his side hope as he touched down out wide on 50 minutes.

Thornbury never gave up and continued to give the home side something to consider as Yatton became side tracked trying to impress their spectators.

In injury time, Dan Milo-Miles crossed over beneath the posts, having followed up on a forwards attack, giving Yatton’s Dave Keating the chance to conclude his 100 per cent try conversion rate.

This Saturday Yatton entertain Avonmouth OB’s in the Combination Cup. Kick-off 2.00pm because this is a Knock-out competition.
