‘CREDIT-ON OFFER BUT YATTON REFUSE’

By travelling to The Park, North End, Yatton the Devonshire team from Crediton offered to go further than this 3rd Round of the EDF Senior Vase competition but the Yatton 1st XV denied them any further passage.

Both sides were fielding changes with Yatton’s fly-half William Rhys Davies getting special mention from the opposition.

After soaking up early pressure Yatton released Glenn Jones and Alan Scott Walters converted. At 15 minutes centre Mike Harris broke through after a Yatton 22 metre lineout.

For the remainder of the half, Yatton were frequently under pressure within their own 22 from Creditons pick and drive moves and heavier pack, but the reached the interval 12-0 ahead.

Thirty seconds into the second half, injury replacement hooker Ashley Fido broke through from a maul and set up Scott Walters to touch down in the corner.

In the 50th minute Crediton had a player carded and seconds later wing Lee Millard broke two tackles on his way to cross over.

Minutes later, much to the delight of home supporters, herdsman by trade and popular second row Neil ‘Mad Cow’ Hynam gathered the ball in the loose and galloped through the oppositions 22 to ground the ball with a celebratory dive and was then ‘mooed’ by the crowd back to the re-start.

Flanker Gareth GT Walters then struck home with a try beneath the posts for Yatton giving his brother an easy conversion to bring the score to 34-0 in the 65th minute.

But with all credit to Crediton the visitors continued the struggle, with Mike Grigg breaking off from a rolling maul beneath the posts for Ross Toms to convert.

To add icing to the cake in the dying seconds, scrum half Nic Garnham broke from behind Yatton’s tryline to halfway and from there injury replacement Chris Edwards in hot pursuit as the supporting player took custody of ‘my precious’ the ball and finished off beneath the posts for a ‘Lord of the Rings’ try. Walters converted to the whistle.

This Saturday Yatton defend their Top of the Table position against third placed Stroud. A ‘toughie’ at home, with Vice Presidents luncheon and 2-30pm Kickoff.
