Chosen Hill being newly promoted, and total strangers to their visitors Yatton, provided a good old style rugby reception and proved that just because they are the basement club in the league they should not be taken lightly.

An unusually nervous Yatton found themselves a converted try down within the first three minutes. Try and conversion by No 10 Andy King.

Minutes later Yatton’s own No 10 Sam Osborne finished off and converted bringing the visitors level and shaking off any effects of the journey.

At ten minutes Scrum Half Nic Garnham touchdown and Osborne coverted.

Seconds later Yatton, with a change of tactics, saw Prop Dave Giggler Anderson powerhouse a maul over the oppositions try line. Osborne again taking the extras.

With the score line of 7-21 after only 15 minutes it looked as though Yatton were definitely on top and the rest should be a stroll in the park.

Osborne’s individual second try in the far corner at twenty minutes was retrieved to some extent by Kings penalty minutes before half time as Chosen Hill regrouped and recovered from shell shock.

Two minutes after the break an Osborne penalty edged Yatton further ahead on to 10-29 but Chosen Hill have not steadily progressed through the Gloucester Leagues just to rollover in a situation like this.

Having held Yatton back, Benn Boseley’s pushover try at 60 minutes after a series of five yard scrums, with conversion by King, gave the homeside supporters added spirit.

But from a quick tap penalty Garnham’s pace gave Yatton his individual try bringing them to 34 points.

With five minutes to go it was Chosen Hill who won the second half points contest when Centre Adam Morgan cut through missed tackles to touchdown.

This Saturday Yatton 1st XV travel to Withycombe (Exmouth) for the EDF Cup.

Kick off 2-00pm. Transport by coach is available, returning for Halloween Evening at the YRFC Clubhouse.
