Yatton 29 Berry Hill 27.
Yatton have an uphill struggle!
Berry Hill were visiting Yatton for the first
time on Saturday . Both sides started the game at pace
and they both had their chances to score. It was Berry Hill on the scoreboard
first when the forwards pressured Yatton and after
their concerted effort Lee Osborne number 10 scored the try, Neil James
converting.
Excellent back play by the home side gave Phil Morgan the opportunity
to go over in the corner Sam Osborne bringing the scores level with the
conversion. The visitors forwards showed
their strength through most of the first half and were rewarded with a try when
they drove number 6 Shaun Oaten in just before half time.
Committed Yatton forwards started the second
half well and were awarded a penalty Sam Osborne converting bringing the scores
closer. But a few minutes later Berry Hill hooker Anthony Wright broke away to score, number 11 Neil
James adding the extra points. Yatton replied with a
superb break by the Yatton backs giving Phil Morgan
his second try.
Nick Garnham Yatton’s scrum half
had made several breaks during the game and was flying when he breached the
Berry line, supported by Nick Spellissy who scored
under the posts. Continual broken play and sloppy defense by Yatton allowed Neil James to run from half way to bring the
scores to 22-27 in the final five minutes. But Yatton
forwards won the ball against the head in the scrum on the five metre line and speedy passing gave Mike Harris the points
under the post converted by Sam Oborne.
Berry Hill were
unlucky not to take the points. Russ Hancock the Yatton
number 8 and Nick Spellissy No 7 both had a good game
but Nick Garnham was elected Man of the Match. Next
weeks game is away against Chosen Hill another new face in the league.
