After a slow and ‘close encounters’ start to the game, Yatton opened the scoring with a penalty conversion from Robbie Jones.

Winscombe were stung into action and came back with a well scored try.

Yatton’s pack then started to impose on the game and another penalty was secured to edge the homeside back in front.

Yatton knew what had to be done to win the game, it was to pin the opposition down in their own half. A quick lineout gifted Anthony Harris Yatton’s first try.

Winscombe's young back line was a constant threat and allowed Yatton no time to sit back on the score.

But it was Yattons handling in their well drilled three quarters which allowed Captain Chris Edwards to turn on the after burners and blast through Yattons second try, converted by Robbie Jones.

The last twenty minutes was played outstandingly by both sides, but with another penalty conversion by Yatton and time running out, there was no coming back for Winscombe.

The visitors well deserved final try and conversion gave them some consolation from a well appreciated and thrilling game.
