Saturday 7th October 2006 (League Match)
‘Yatton fade down the slope’
It was a much changed side that travelled to Thornbury but they acquitted themselves well in the first half against the slope and constant attacks from the home side.
Apart from the first few minutes Thornbury tested Yatton’s defence consistently for 25 minutes, but finally it was Yatton who worked their way up on to the oppositions try line.
From consistent set pieces eventually centre Mike Harris broke through with five minutes to go.
Tom Jackson converting to put the half time score at 0-7 to visitors.
Within ten minutes after the break Thornbury took full advantage of Yatton’s errors landing two penalty conversions through Kevin Rudrum.
At 60 minutes Thornbury were able to let loose as Yatton lost their shape and moves became too predictable.
Redrum finished off and converted a three quarters attack.
Minutes later from an attempted clearance by Yatton, again Thornbury clicked into gear, this time from their own 22 and good hands resulted in scrum half Tony Down crossing over. Redrum’s conversion put the home side in command by 20 points to seven.
Yatton momentarily regrouped with a series of driving rucks and mauls released wing Phil Morgan to touch down in the corner.
But it was Thornbury who were in Yatton’s 22 at the final whistle and looking the stronger.
This Saturday Yatton 1st XV entertain Berry Hill for the first time in a League match. VP Luncheon, kick off 3.00pm.
