Within 3 minutes Paul Hedson slotted away a penalty for Keynsham and at 6 minutes Yatton had a player sin binned and he was also sporting a broken nose. Hedson converted another penalty. 4 minutes later No 8 Jack Watson for Keynsham crashed over and Hedson easily added the extras.

10 minutes gone, trailing 13-0 and one man down; Yatton’s travelling supporters expected the worse.

But minutes later Fly Half Sam Osborne for Yatton, with a forward missing in the pack, manufactured a try from an attacking 5 yard scrum. Yatton’s mauling then became something to be reckoned with.

At 30 minutes Yatton’s good hands from midfield resulted in Nick Spellissy breaking through to touch down beneath the posts. Osborne converted.

10 minutes later Spellissy dived over picking up the ball from the back of a try line breakdown. Osborne’s second conversion put the score at 13-19 for the break. First half injury time saw a player from each side yellow carded in the same incident.

At 55 minutes Pete Lynch, in his first 1st XV match for Yatton, crossed over after blasting down the wing when the pack had won ruck ball in midfield.

Keynsham were now struggling in the scrums and courageous Captain Chris Harris calmly placed the ball over the tryline, after another five yarder for Yatton.

But 10 minutes later Keynsham’s James Marsh emerged with the ball having grounded it from a maul for the homeside to bring the score to 18-29.

However seconds later Wing Dan Silcock erased those points when he collected a clearance kick in Yatton’s 22, broke through and allowed supporting Mike Harris to finish off.

Yatton’s tenacious defence was then made to hold out. Recently relogated Keynsham saved some embarrassment in the score line when Russell Tanner broke through tired legs and Hedson converted on the final whistle after nine minutes of injury time.

Yattons travelling supporters’ man of the match was Nick Spellissy.

This Saturday Yatton’s 1st XV are at home with a League encounter against ‘old favourites’ Old Centralians
