Counties North League game
BRISTOL HARLEQUINS 27 v
YATTON 9
Playing at home and having
beaten Yatton at away and at home last season, the
psychological advantage was all with the Quins and
they were firing on all cylinders from the kickoff.
Solid lineout play and a
fullback break gave Chris Page the chance to finish off for his first try after
5 minutes.
Sam Osborne's penalty at the
end of the first quarter retrieved some points for Yatton
only to see another missed tackles break through finished by Ross Hickory for
his home side
For the remainder of the
second quarter full back Osborne's kicking kept Yatton
in contention with two more penalties from Harlequins persistant
infringements of offside.
The game turnedround
at 10-9 halftime
With the hot summer sun on
Harlequins back and determined to quickly stretch the margin Yatton's defence
was again severely tested. It held strong but the sqiurt
of ball from the side of a 5 metre defensive scrum was pounced on by
Yatton's moves seemed to
lack match practice as a unit and their 'bad' day was highlighted when they
seemed to squander a certain 3 points infront of the
posts which would have narrowed the score margin to within one converted
penalty.
For the remaining ten
minutes Yatton's desperate bag of unorthadox tricks
came to nought against a homeside whose tails were
well up. Consequently Harlequins finished the stronger against their visitors
who fought bravely enough. Matt Bright's mauling try
and finally Page's second of the afternoon was converted by Craig Dix minutes
before the whistle.
Yatton 1st XV at home face recently relegated Gloucester Old Boys this Saturday Kick-off 3-00pm
