‘Yatton finish in top quartile, again.’
Yatton claimed another double and coasted into consolidating their position in the top quartile of the Western Counties (North) division thanks to a good first half performance.
Playing with the wind in their favour Yatton struck within the first two minutes as centre Mike Harris muscled through under the posts after a lineout was forced from the kick-off. Dave Keating converted.
Play was interrupted after ten minutes when an Oldfield player was stretchered off.
At the end of the first quarter Nick Garnham touchdown, having received Ian Spiller’s pass after his break from the base of a 5-yard scrum.
Yatton excelled in the rucks and open play but Oldfield always threatened with solid lineout play.
Minutes before halftime, Keating side stepped over the tryline after wing Dan Silcock had won possession following up a clearance kick which resulted in a scrum. Keating’s kick from far out was icing on the cake and brought the score to 19-0.
As Yatton eased off in the second half and mistakenly chose thwarted lineouts instead of kickable penalties, Oldfield edged back into the game.
Keating sold a dummy to touchdown after 65 minutes but Oldfield deservedly had the last word when Mat Nuttall bulldozed over from a 5-yard scrum and Joel Hawkings converted.
