‘Yellow cards a plenty’

In this mid-table hard fought encounter yellow cards featured prominently, Yatton collected 3 and Whitehall 4, even more importantly Yatton missed out on vital league points.

Whitehall’s well drilled pack taking clean lineout ball struck within the first seven minutes as Craig Trump was driven over the homeside touch from a five yard lineout.

Clearance kicks helped Yatton defensive tactics and two missed penalty conversion opportunities proved to cost them dear.

A Yatton drive at the scrum provided a try by Russ Hancock after 30 minutes and then wing Phil Morgan finished off a back line move minutes later to put Yatton 10-5 on front.

But five minutes before half-time the home side conceded a penalty try, Dane Weaver converting.

Weaver edged the visitors further in front with a penalty, and after 70 minutes Whitehall were awarded another penalty try.

Dave Keating kicked a penalty minutes later and Yatton came back with a try by Mike Harris after a Nick Garnham break, but it was too late.

This weekend Yatton 1st XV travel to Matson for a vital match.
