Bristol Quins 5 pts Yatton 3 pts
The power of the home pack allied to their superior
technique in the line-outs ensured that Yatton were in for a torrid time
throughout a hard-fought first half.
Both teams had players sin binned, Quins after 10 minutes and Yatton after 35,
such was the passion and commitment of all 30 players and there were frequent
stoppages due to injuries. The exchanges were generally fierce and unyielding
but although the hosts enjoyed the territorial advantage throughout the first
half they were unable to break down a resolute but desperate Yatton defence.
The visitors found renewed resolve at the start of the second period and a
dropped goal from Dave Keating on 45 minutes inched them ahead before a change
of personnel gave them more command in the set pieces. Almost inevitably the
streetwise old sweats of the home back enjoyed their one moment of success when
a trademark take and drive from a line-out resulted in the games only try on
the hour.
Yatton's opportunity to sneak the game came to nothing when they fluffed their
only penalty conversion opportunity just five minutes from the end.
Yatton are off to Nailsea and Backwell on Saturday for a Somerset Cup tie,
kick-off 2pm, and, would you believe it, they face the same opposition on the
same ground in the league the following Saturday
