‘Yatton avenge away defeat’

Yatton’s last League defeat was away against the same side Walcot just over a month ago.

Yatton squandered early chances at the start of the match and, after ten minutes, both sides had a player sin-binned from the same incident as rivalry flared.

On the quarter hour wing Phil Morgan finished off good handling in the back division.

As the fierce battle continued in front of a large festive homeside crowd Sam Osborne landed a penalty ten minutes later.

Walcots relentless pressure from the pack inflicted injuries and gave the swift legs of Joel Dixon the opportunity seconds before half time to cross in the corner.

At the start of the second half, Yatton’s defensive skills were again severely tested, but it was Nic Garnam’s pop-up pass to prop Gavin Clifford on Walcots tryline which put the homeside further ahead when Osborne converted.

Again Yatton were put under the cosh in all areas and as steady drizzle of rain developed it made decisions difficult.

Phil Morgan’s second try and Osborne’s conversion in the dying minutes from a whole team effort added to the Christmas spirit of the homeside players and support.

Yatton 1st XV’s next League match is away at Bristol Harlequins on the 8th January 2005.
