‘Yatton finish with flourish ’

Yatton travelled to Oldfield looking to add to their win of the previous Saturday and proved successful in their aim

There was a scrappy beginning to the first half, with Oldfield strong in lineouts and the scrums were heavily contested.

But Yatton took the lead with a Dave Keating penalty, before Lee Sumption kicked two penalties to give Oldfield a 6-3 lead.

It took a knock down by Nic Garnam and good support play by Chris Harris to set up Garnam for a try to put Yatton back in a slender lead.

Oldfield started the second half with fourteen men and Yatton were also reduced in numbers after the first few minutes of the second period.

Sumption slotted away two more penalties before Yatton finally got their act together and began winning better ball.

Excellent team play led to Keating scoring the next try with Sam Osbourne converting.

In the final few minutes Yatton elected to run a penalty and Gareth G T Walters broke through the Oldfield defence setting the ball up for a superb try by Mike Harris. Osbourne converting.

This Saturday all Yatton sides have a ‘tough’ call, 2nds and 3rds each have Merit Table fixtures and the 1st XV are at home on League duty against old adversaries Walcot - but that’s preceded by a Christmas Special sit down luncheon for the Vice Presidents and their guests which, in turn, is preceded by Yatton RFC’s Christmas Revue on the Friday night. Phew! … would the last person standing please put the lights out?
