‘Yatton lost in the mist ’

Last Saturday Yatton 1st XV suffered their most depressing defeat this Season.

At the Walcot ground it was bitterly cold, wet, the mist kept rolling in making it impossible to see the opposite side of the pitch and it proved a most miserable day for Yatton.

Their injury list grew during the first half as George Chalmers followed by Kevin Penfold, both from the pack, joined non starters such as inspirational Captain Matt Johnson and the Harris Brothers among others.

Yatton were kept in contention until haltime when Dave Keating added a Drop Gaol in the dying seconds to his penalty conversion five minutes in. But meanwhile Walcot had scored through an opportunist try and conversion and followed that with a penalty of their own.

At the start of the second half shoddy work by Yatton allowed Walcot an easy try within the first two minutes. Quickly Walcot began to capitalise in the rucks and mauls with Yatton always having problems at the base of the scrums in the slippery conditions.

But all credit to Yatton’s dogged defence ‘tails up’ Walcot were restricted to a try every ten minutes with the last being converted.
