‘Yatton’s young Silcock shines ’

In this round of the Bristol Combination Cup Yatton took the opportunity to run out four young players and replacements.

Aretians’ initial strength lay in their lineout skills, dropout restarts and powerful pack however it was balanced against Yattons agility around the park.

Aretians put the visitors under pressure on their tryline for the first 10 minutes but failed to find a way through.

A backline move from Yatton’s own 22 ended when wing young Dan Silcock finished under the posts after running half the length of the pitch. Dave Keating converted.

Keating’s penalty was the only other score minutes before half time.

An Aretians drop-goal in the first three minutes after the turnaround signalled a revival.

But due to the homesides lack of replacements uncontested scrums were then called for at 50 minutes after Keating’s second penalty conversion.

Ten minutes later Nic Garnham did justice to yet another break by Silcock receiving the try scoring pass and grounding it in the corner. Keating’s kicking boots were well secure and he converted from far out.

Aretians had the best of the final quarter but again Yatton’s defence limited them to one unconverted try.

This Saturday Yatton 1st XV is back to League duty at home against old rivals Bristol Harlequins. Kick-off 2-30pm after the Vice Presidents’ sit-down luncheon.
