Yatton Scorers     Tries A Walters. Pens Keating

‘Whitehall best on the day ’

In total contrast to the week before Yatton were given a lesson in well-drilled and committed play by the opposition’s forwards.

Playing with the slope and wind in their favour Whitehall were held back for the first ten minutes but it was missed tackles which let Craig Trump in to touchdown and give Dane Weaver an easy conversion.

Although scrummages were fairly even it was Whitehall’s superiority in lineouts and driving mauls which constantly tested Yatton’s defence.

Yatton’s damage limitation endeavours in the first half nearly paid off but after a series of five yard scrums it was an awarded penalty try and conversion at forty minute which doubled their tally

Even though Whitehall’s Number 2 was yellow carded it was they who again scored first within minutes of the turnaround. A soft try allowed Trevor Davies to streak down the touchline

At 55 minutes Whitehall’s Number 6 was binned but Yatton’s only reward was Dave Keating’s penalty conversion

As Yatton constantly struggled to find any cohesion Gavin Hickey grounded the ball from a lineout take and drive to bring Whitehall'’ score to 24-3

In the last quarter Yatton did up their game spurred on by the binning of their Captain and on one of the few occasions in which the backline was effectively brought into play Full Back Alan Walters convincingly crossed over in the corner

Man of the Match Dane Weaver finished off Whitehall’s satisfactory display in front of homeside supporters with a penalty conversion

This coming Saturday Yatton 1st XV gets the chance to turn it on when they entertain league side Drybrook.

A Vice Presidents luncheon precedes the match.
