Old C’s ended the first fifteen minutes stalemate when Mar Perkins finished off a backline break through thanks to lack of tackles. Craig Anderson converted. Anderson put his side further from a penalty and shortly after lack of outside cover was exploited giving Mike Mumford his touchdown and Anderson more successful kicking practice.
All this was a far cry from last seasons March encounter between these two when Yatton emerged victorious. However 5 minutes before halftime Nic Garnham’s speculative kick over and tryline tussle did end up with him grounding the ball and Dave Keating’s conversion from far out, for Yatton.
Just after the break Keating’s penalty from just inside the halfway line did seem to herald a revival for Yatton but the difference was soon erased by Anderson’s sure boot as another penalty was gifted.
Yatton then seemed to wilt in the heat of the scorching afternoon and Old C’s constant pressure. Nothing seemed to click for Yatton whose game became littered with errors. Maybe it was a touch of no train, no gain only more pain.
Old C’s now had their tails up and the last 15 minutes saw Rob Pinkney touchdown and confident Anderson drop a goal giving them clear water at 10-28.
But to be fair to Yatton they may have been having a ‘bad day at the office’ but they still keep battling. The result was their most cohesive move with Alan Walters touching down.
Old C’s however were well on a roll and Richard Pinkney’s grounding of the ball from a well drill lineout take and drive finished off their convincing performance against an out of sorts Yatton fifteen
