Yatton Rugby Football Club

In the mid sixties, a group of men sat in a local pub nursing a pint or two and decided to bring Rugby to Yatton.

Now entering into its 34th year Yatton Rugby Club is a proud and thriving club with a great atmosphere.

The first XV now play in the Western Counties League. Whilst the success of our first XV is important and perhaps the easiest measure of the clubs success, it is only one aspect of the club. With over 80 senior playing members we have a full season of fixtures for three senior sides on a Saturday, a Sunday Vets team and a full programme of junior teams, all playing a good standard of rugby.

Yatton’s training is run by an “in house” coaching team.  Working on a voluntary basis, their dedication to Yatton RFC is second to none. Their aim is to create the environment and ability to play an expansive game of rugby involving all members of the team. The senior coaching team are all Level Two coaches with a good up to date knowledge of the game. They use individual and team coaching methods in a variety of ways to develop core skills, and improve fitness. The coaching team are committed and training is hard work. It is also varied, interesting, developmental and above all fun.

A lively social scene supports the on field activities. The club also runs a Vice Presidents membership where past players and supporters gather before each home league match for a fine meal, refreshment and some pre-match banter. These meals have proved a great success and are now copied by several other clubs in the area.

Every Christmas there is the annual Christmas Review. When our most skilful of rugby players throw off the shorts and jerseys and don the stage make up for a night of lively entertainment. Throughout the season there are a number of social nights with good food and music.

The Committee and members of Yatton RFC are justifiably proud of the Club they support. Run almost entirely on a voluntary basis. From the minis to the Vets It is a real home grown affair. Many of the current first XV have come up through the junior section.

With several hundred members Yatton is probably the best supported team in the area and our support at away matches often out number and out shout the home side.  If you would like to be involved with Yatton Rugby Club in any way please give us a ring or call in at the club on any Saturday during the season.
